I've seen it several times when I passed by the front facade and it has always caught my attention. What I've never imagined about this new building that contrasts with everything around (seemingly small, because the main facade facing the street is narrow and tall) is the fact that it has a beautiful courtyard inside. I don't know why I didn't think about that possibility ... When I researched a bit more about this foundation I realized that the building was much larger than it appeared because it continued inside with many more volumes and a patio giving access to them .
I recently saw the doors open and I could not resist myself to enter. It is the new Giner de los Rios Foundation and people could visit a small exhibition about him: Francisco Giner de los Rios (1839-1915) one of the intellectual founders of the Free Institution of Education.
What I wanted was to see the building. I find it beautiful and is a place that separates you from the street noise, a quiet and pleasant space despite having almost no vegetation at this time of year.
The building is made by Amid.cero9 arhitects founded by Cristina Díaz Moreno and Efrén García Grinda. I herd about them recently during my final thesis because one of their built projects was a reference that helped me with mine. I was thrilled to visit one of their buildings finally.
I could only see the courtyard, delimited by some small houses that separate it from the street and a series of glass volumes enclosed by a metal lattice. I loved the image of the building and the different volumes layout that articulate the courtyard, creating different areas, some of them more open and other more enclosed, besides being a distributor space is a resting area outdoors.
