I had not been to Extremadura for a long time. I went as a child with my parents to spend a weekend and we've been another time in Merida on our way to Lisbon, but not much. I did not know La Vera, where Miki has the village of his childhood. The area is beautiful, I loved the landscapes and even though the heat was the devil we enjoyed a lot. We needed a relaxing weekend out of the city wnjoying the countryside. I came back renewed and ready to start the crazy week I had forward with a trip to Italy and a wedding in Galicia. One of the places that I liked the most and that I highly recommend if you go there is the Monastery of Yuste. It is where King Charles V retired on his last years of life. A very austere and not very large monastery that is in a beautiful and secluded setting. We took a guide who explained everything during the tour and I was amazed by the history, it's worth it. If you have an opportunity do not hesitate to visit it, it also has many similarities with the Monastery of El Escorial, another of my favorite places for its architecture and its history.
